Ethan Hawke honored with American Riviera Award: SBIFF2026

At the 41st annual Santa Barbara International Film Festival, Ethan Hawke was honored with the American Riviera Award, recognizing his outstanding contributions to American cinema. The award was presented by Academy Award and Golden Globe winner Jeff Bridges, marking a celebratory moment for one of the most versatile artists of his generation.

The evening featured an in-depth onstage conversation moderated by Dave Karger, reflecting on Hawke’s four-decade career across film and theater. The discussion revisited landmark performances including Explorers, Dead Poets Society, Reality Bites, Gattaca, Training Day, Before Sunset, Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead, Boyhood, First Reformed, and Blue Moon, underscoring the breadth and longevity of his work.

The tribute also unfolded amid a vibrant festival atmosphere, with filmmakers and talent walking the red carpet throughout the night. In attendance were Golden Globe winner Miranda Richardson, representing The Yellow Tie, alongside actress Olivia Popica, director Serge Ioan Celebidachi, producer Adela Vrinceanu Celebidachi, and writer James Olivier. Also present were Relatively Normal executive producer and actress Chloe Coleman, cast members Lilia Buckingham and Grant Culling, and writer-director Amy Wendel, a Santa Barbara local.
