Matthew McConaughey (born November 4, 1969) is an American actor, producer, and philanthropist known for his charismatic presence and signature drawl. He first gained attention in Richard Linklater’s Dazed and Confused (1993) with the iconic line “Alright, alright, alright,” and went on to star in romantic comedies like The Wedding Planner (2001) and How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days (2003).
In the 2010s, McConaughey shifted to more dramatic roles, a career turn often referred to as the “McConaissance.” He earned widespread acclaim for The Lincoln Lawyer (2011), Magic Mike (2012), and Mud (2012). His performance in Dallas Buyers Club (2013) won him the Academy Award for Best Actor, and he starred in Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar (2014) and HBO’s True Detective (2014), cementing his place as one of Hollywood’s most versatile actors.
Outside of acting, McConaughey is a professor at the University of Texas at Austin, the author of the bestselling memoir Greenlights (2020), and founder of the Just Keep Livin Foundation, which supports youth programs.
